Today in my readings, I realized that morning meetings are not just for fun, even though they are just that. You need to have a rationale for why you are having them, and be able to speak to that when someone questions you. The point of morning meetings is to have fun. Morning meetings are the single time of the day that EVERY SINGLE child is successful. THAT IS HUGE! That tells me that morning meetings are the most important part of the day. Knowing that, why would you not make morning meetings an important part of your scheduling, and give a measly 30 min./day to them?!
Have Fun!
With all the fun going on, your students will still learn. I have learned that there are simple and very effective ways to sneak in curriculum to the morning meeting. It is possible to teach students without a worksheet (GASP!) I know, a crazy concept, but it's true. Bonus: when you sneak in curriculum, it makes it that much easier to speak to the naysayers about why you think that morning meeting is essential to the success of your students in your classroom!
Great... this was a nicely balanced posting, with your reflection and your "voice" included. 5 pts.
